Selling or closing a restoration firm
Water damage restoration business for sale: the records question
A firm's years of documented losses can be licensed on their own, before or alongside a sale of the business.
Ask about my restoration records Tell us where your losses are documented and how many years they span, and we will check it against the 4 documents on this board in a written reply.
Licensing the records, not the firm
Several buyers say on their own pages that the business keeps its records and grants a licence. Polyshares says the company keeps the business and the underlying data and the license is defined and bounded; Nyne says ownership and granted rights remain governed by the agreement.
What buyers say about people in the records
- Troveo, a data licensor
- Scrubs people's names, contact details, credentials and client identities under one documented standard before data is put to work.
- Grepped, which lists records for labs
- Says buyers only see redacted previews before a sale.
- micro1, a data buyer
- Commits in its licence not to resell or distribute data until personal and identifying information has been anonymized.

If the firm is changing hands
A buyer of the business takes the archive with the business, and UK GDPR Article 6 still asks for a lawful basis before the homeowners' details are used for anything new. Licensing a cleaned archive before the sale keeps that question with the people who collected the data.
Start with what the firm owns: can a restoration company sell its job records and damage photos.
